To serve as the National Center of Geosciences for sustainable development of Himalaya and and adjoining regions.
To address the topical issues and undertake and pursue cutting edge research in Geosciences.
To develop state-of-art laboratories and network of geoscientific observatories for serving as a nodal agency for high precision field and experimental observations.
To foster a tradition of scholarship, dissemination and cultivation of knowledge, and promote capacity building.
To develop National and International collaboration with research laboratories and Universities/Institutes for scientific exchange and resource generation as per existing Government of India norms.
To provide expert and/or consultancy services to meet the societal requirements.
To take up other such activities that may be necessary, incidental or conducive in attaining the objectives or targets set by WIHG.
